About Indian

Indian Motorcycle is an American motorcycle brand founded in 1901 in Springfield, Massachusetts, making it one of the oldest motorcycle marques in the world. Indian was for decades the main rival to Harley-Davidson and gained worldwide fame with models such as the Chief, the Scout, and the Four. After bankruptcy in 1953 and several revival attempts, the brand was successfully relaunched in 2011 by Polaris Industries. Current models include the Scout (mid-class naked/cruiser), the Chief (classic cruiser), and the Challenger (tourer). The brand stands for American V-twin character, a rich heritage, and a recognisable classic American design language.

In the Netherlands, Indian Motorcycle occupies a niche with a loyal, mature riding community. The typical Dutch Indian rider is an experienced cruiser enthusiast who consciously chooses American exclusivity over the more common Harley-Davidson. The dealer network is limited but present through specialist importers. Servicing is well handled at authorised dealers. On the used market, Chief and Scout models are available. Indian positions itself directly alongside Harley-Davidson in the premium American cruiser segment.
