About the Indian Roadmaster
The Indian Roadmaster is the brand's flagship full-dress tourer, in production since 2015. With a batwing fairing, top case, hard side cases, heated grips and seat, audio system with navigation and cruise control, it is Indian's answer to the Harley-Davidson Road Glide Limited and Honda Gold Wing. Early model years use the air-cooled Thunderstroke 111 V-twin (1811 cc); from 2020 the Thunderstroke 116 (1890 cc) is standard with around 171 Nm of torque. Drive is via belt and a six-speed gearbox, seat height is a low 660 mm and wet weight exceeds 420 kg.
The Roadmaster is built for two-up touring riders who want maximum luggage capacity, weather protection and long-distance comfort. Ergonomics are upright with forward-set floorboards and a deep seat; rider and passenger sit on a wide comfort saddle. On the motorway it excels with a quiet fairing and strong low-rpm torque. Low-speed manoeuvring and parking demand strength and practice. In the Netherlands the service network is sparse, so plan extra travel and parts lead time. Expect roughly 6.5 L/100 km at relaxed touring speeds.

What to check before buying
- Inspect Thunderstroke base and head gaskets for oil weeping at higher mileage
- Test heated grips, heated seat and the full infotainment system including navigation
- Check the stator and regulator/rectifier on pre-2017 units; failures are documented
- Feel for play in the fairing, side cases and top case mounts; rattles develop after long touring
- Verify belt tension, rear wheel bearings and brake calipers; ask for complete service history
