At MotorMonitor we value your privacy. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what rights you have.
What data do we collect?
When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. If you use Apple, Facebook, or Google to sign in, we receive the profile information that provider shares with us. We store saved listings, saved searches, notification preferences, buyer and seller messages, and the text and photographs you submit in a listing. The mobile app also uses a randomly generated installation identifier, device information, and an Apple Push Notification service token to secure the service, manage signed-in devices, apply fair request limits, and deliver notifications.
Social login (Apple, Facebook, Google)
You can log in to MotorMonitor using your Apple, Facebook, or Google account. We only receive the basic profile information required for the login flow. Apple may provide a private relay email address if you choose Hide My Email. We do not gain access to your contacts, posts, or other account data. We use this information solely to create and manage your MotorMonitor account.
Mobile app and location
Location is optional. If you choose Use my current location, the app sends your precise coordinates to our server once to convert them into a postcode for distance filters. You can enter a postcode instead. We do not use location for advertising or tracking. Push notifications can contain saved-search results, listing changes, report updates, and message previews; you can change these preferences in the app or in your device settings.
How do we use your data?
We use your data to provide and improve the service: managing your account and devices, saving favorites and searches, sending notifications, supporting buyer and seller messaging, publishing and moderating listings, preventing fraud and abuse, enforcing fair-use limits, diagnosing failures, and responding to support requests. We do not sell your personal data and do not use it for cross-app or cross-site tracking.
Cookies
MotorMonitor uses functional cookies that are necessary for the website to work properly, such as session cookies, language preferences, and appearance settings. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
Crash and diagnostic data
The website and app may send crash reports, performance measurements, and technical breadcrumbs to Bugsnag so we can find and repair failures. These reports can include app, operating-system and device versions, request details, and limited account or network context needed to investigate a problem. Bugsnag processes this information for us; it is not used for advertising or tracking.
Third parties
We share data only when necessary to run the service: with our hosting and email providers, Apple for push notifications, Bugsnag for crash and performance diagnostics, and Apple, Facebook, or Google when you choose that provider to sign in. These parties process data for us or as required by the service you deliberately use. We may also disclose information when the law requires it or to protect users and the service from fraud or abuse.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, export of, restriction of, or deletion of your personal data, and may object to or withdraw consent for processing where applicable. You can edit your profile and delete your account from the account settings in the website or app. You may also contact [email protected]. You can lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
Retention and account deletion
We retain account-linked data while your account is active and only as long as needed for the purposes above. When you delete your account, your profile, saved listings, saved searches, notification preferences, devices, and tokens are removed; your own listings are taken offline; conversations are closed; and sender identifiers are removed from retained messages so they are no longer linked to your account. Backups are deleted within 30 days. We may retain limited security, fraud, transaction, or legal records for as long as reasonably necessary to meet legal obligations or defend claims.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will notify registered users via email or a notification on the website.
