K 1300 S (2009-2016)

About the Bmw K 1300 S
The BMW K 1300 S is a fully faired sport-tourer produced by BMW from 2009 to 2016 as the successor to the K 1200 S. The transverse inline-four displaces 1293 cc and produces 175 hp, with drive via shaft. The Duolever front fork and Paralever rear suspension are characteristic BMW features, delivering high stability at speed without sacrificing straight-line comfort. The K 1300 S was also available in an HP (High Performance) variant with adjustable suspension and a race livery.
The K 1300 S targets riders who want a powerful, comfortable sport-tourer for both motorway miles and more sporting routes. Less agile in town than a naked bike, it rewards on motorways and twisty roads. The relatively high weight (241 kg) requires rider experience. Rivals included the Kawasaki ZX-14R and Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa, but the BMW offered more comfort and technology for touring.

What to check before buying
- Check the Duolever front fork for oil leaks and bearing wear; overhaul is specialist work and costly.
- Inspect the shaft drive for play and oil seepage; a recurring concern at higher mileage.
- Check the condition of the fairing mounts and plastic panels; parts are becoming scarcer now that production has ended.
- Check the DDC chassis (Dynamic Damping Control, optional) for fault codes; repair requires BMW diagnostic software.
- Inspect the exhaust gaskets; the high power output combined with cold-start thermal cycling wears gaskets faster than average.
