About the Bimota YB 9
The Bimota YB9 is an Italian handbuilt supersport motorcycle fitted with a Yamaha FZR 600 engine (599 cc, DOHC four-cylinder) inside a lightweight aluminium frame of Bimota's own design, produced from 1995 to 1999. Bimota used the Yamaha engine as a proven powerplant and combined it with an advanced chassis considerably lighter than the original Yamaha application. Production numbers were small, only a few hundred were ever built, making the YB9 a rare collector's item.
The YB9 is aimed exclusively at riders with a deep interest in Italian motorcycle craftsmanship and sporting performance. The semi-faired construction and low weight deliver exceptionally agile handling. Due to its rarity, parts are extremely difficult and expensive to source. This is not a daily-use machine but a collector's piece requiring excellent maintenance and ideally preserved as an investment.

What to check before buying
- Check original Bimota chassis components for corrosion and metal fatigue; replacement is almost exclusively possible via specialist Bimota importers or the second-hand market.
- Inspect the Yamaha engine for known FZR 600 wear points: valve clearances, carburettor synchronisation, and piston wear at higher mileage.
- Ask about the vehicle's originality: a non-original Bimota has significantly lower value on the collector's market.
- Check the electrical system for moisture damage and deviations from the original caused by previous repairs.
- Ask for service records; documented maintenance history is critical for valuation on this motorcycle.
