The first RGV 250 VJ21 is a lightweight two-stroke V-twin sports bike closely related in spirit to Grand Prix machinery. It needs specialist two-stroke maintenance and is primarily an enthusiast or track bike, not a carefree daily used purchase.
The Suzuki RGV250 is an iconic Japanese sports motorcycle powered by a water-cooled V-twin two-stroke of 249 cc, produced by Suzuki from 1988 to 1996. The RGV250 was developed as a road-legal version of the factory racer and is characterised by an extremely low weight of around 149 kg, a high rev ceiling and the fast power delivery typical of a two-stroke V-twin. Suzuki produced three generations: the VJ21 (1988–1989), VJ22 (1990–1993) and VJ23 (1994–1996), each with improved chassis and engine specifications. The RGV competed directly with the Honda NSR250R and Yamaha TZR250.
The RGV250 is not a beginner's motorcycle: the lower rev range delivers little power and the extreme powerband demands real skill. It targets experienced sport riders who want the raw two-stroke experience on the road and circuit. Well-maintained examples have become appreciating classics; original SP variants are particularly rare and sought after.
A used Suzuki RGV 250 costs €12,999 on average. Most cost €7,850 to €14,750. This is based on 11 motorcycles for sale now.
