About the Suzuki GSX-R 600
The Suzuki GSX-R 600 has been on sale as a 600 cc supersport since 1992 (1997 in Europe) and ranks alongside the Honda CBR 600 and Yamaha YZF-R6 as a benchmark in the class. The 599 cc four-stroke makes around 106 hp on the Dutch registration, with factory specs reaching up to 124 hp on later generations. Kerb weight is roughly 190 kg, paired with a short wheelbase, an upside-down fork and, from the K6 (2006) onward, radial-mount front brake calipers. From 2011 (L1) the bike has shared its chassis with the GSX-R 750.
The GSX-R 600 targets riders who want the track DNA of a litre supersport in a more manageable package. The smaller-displacement engine puts its power in the upper rev range, making the bike ideal for track days and sporty weekend rides. For commuting, the aggressive ergonomics are less forgiving; many owners run it as a second bike. Direct rivals are the Honda CBR 600 RR, Yamaha YZF-R6, Kawasaki ZX-6R and Triumph Daytona 675.

What to check before buying
- Listen for cam-chain tensioner rattle on cold start; on K4-K8 models a clatter from the cylinder head is a recognised wear point.
- Check the voltage regulator/rectifier; like other K6-K8 era GSX-R bikes it is known for overheating and burned connectors.
- Ask whether the stator has been replaced or tested; weak stators leave the battery short of charge, especially after track-day duty cycles.
- Inspect fairings, bar-end and footpeg mounts; track-day bikes often hide damage that only shows once the bodywork is removed.
- On bikes that sat for a long period, throttle bodies can stick; symptoms are uneven idle or sudden surges; ask whether the injection has recently been cleaned.
