1995–1997 Supermono
GenerationThe full production version pairing the BMW/Rotax single with Bimota's own chassis. It is recognisable by its compact aluminium construction and unusual fuel-tank placement beneath the engine.
About the Bimota BB 1
The Bimota BB1 Supermono is the unusual single-cylinder member of the classic Bimota range. It combines BMW F 650's 652 cc Rotax engine with a very light aluminium chassis, Paioli suspension and Brembo brakes. Bimota unveiled it in 1994 and built the BB1 in small numbers from 1995 to 1997. Its low fuel-tank placement beneath the engine and short, radical geometry give it a distinctive compact character.
With around 48 hp it is not a brute superbike, but a light specialist sport motorcycle for winding roads and collectors who value chassis finesse. Seek an original machine with a complete maintenance history for both the Rotax single and Bimota-specific components. Its riding position and steering response are purposeful, so a test ride and specialist inspection make more sense than relying on the BMW mechanical basis alone.

What to check before buying
- Check starting, oil consumption and Rotax-single service history, including valve clearances and carburetion.
- Inspect the aluminium frame, swingarm and low-mounted tank for damage, leaks and non-original repairs.
- Check the Paioli fork and shock for leaks, corrosion and documented maintenance.
- Test charging voltage, connectors and earths; age and limited parts support matter on a small-series bike.
- Compare bodywork, wheels and brake parts with period material; Bimota-specific parts are costly and not always available.
