The first XT1200Z Super Ténéré combines the 1,199cc parallel twin with shaft drive and a 23-litre tank. It is a large long-distance adventure with traction control and ABS.
The Yamaha XT1200Z Super Ténéré is a Japanese adventure tourer powered by a 1199 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin with a 270-degree crankshaft. Yamaha launched the Super Ténéré in 2010 as the heavyweight successor to the legendary XT line, delivering 110 hp with a semi-active suspension management system and optional electronic traction control (TCS). At around 309 kg fully fuelled it is substantial, but the low centre of gravity makes it more manageable than the weight suggests. The 'Ténéré' name references the famous Sahara Desert stage from Dakar Rally tradition.
The Super Ténéré suits full A-licence holders planning long-distance intercontinental touring, where reliability and luggage capacity are priorities. The ergonomics are upright and comfortable for extended hours in the saddle. Main rivals are the BMW R1200GS and Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L. It holds a strong reputation in Europe and North Africa as an endurance adventure bike on both tarmac and dirt tracks.
