Years2021–present
The third generation retained the 1,340 cc base but gained ride-by-wire, IMU-managed electronics, cruise control and modern LED lighting. Peak output is lower while midrange and usability improved.

Years2008–2020
The second generation grew to 1,340 cc and gained radial brakes, riding modes and more power. Larger exhausts and a sharper nose distinguish it from the 1,299 cc series.

Years1999–2007
The original Hayabusa uses a 1,299 cc four-cylinder and its distinctive high-speed aerodynamic bodywork. Models from 2001 are electronically limited to about 299 km/h.
1,299 cc · 175 hp · 4 cyl.
The Suzuki GSX-R 1300 Hayabusa has been Suzuki's iconic flagship since 1999 and was, in its first generation, the fastest production motorcycle in the world. The 1340 cc liquid-cooled inline-four (1299 cc on the original generation through 2007) makes around 197 hp and propels the roughly 266 kg kerb weight to top speeds beyond 290 km/h (electronically limited from 2000). The third generation (2021) introduced a comprehensive electronics suite with an IMU, cruise control, multi-mode engine management and standard ABS, all without compromising the aerodynamic silhouette that makes the model instantly recognisable.
The Hayabusa targets riders who want a sport-tourer with unlimited autobahn performance and who are not put off by its mass and peak power. It is well suited to long-distance riding, the occasional track day and, for those who appreciate the statement, pure hyperbike presence. Few rivals match it on displacement alone; spiritual competitors include the Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX, BMW K 1600 GT and, historically, the Kawasaki ZX-14R.
Ask whether the stator and voltage regulator have been replaced; first-generation bikes (1999-2007) are known for weak charging components.
Check chain stretch and sprocket wear; the brutal torque calls for early replacement of 530-pitch chains on a Hayabusa.
If the bike has an aftermarket exhaust, ask about the power map and whether the exhaust is type-approved; an open exhaust without remap leaves the mixture too lean.
Inspect the brake calipers for sticking; a Hayabusa with pillion and luggage works the brakes harder than a light supersport; ask when the brake fluid was last changed.
On third-generation bikes (from 2021), test every piece of electronics (riding modes, traction control, cruise, IMU-dependent features) on the test ride; sensor faults can disable multiple systems at once.
