Years2024–present
The new Stelvio uses the liquid-cooled 1,042 cc compact-block V-twin, 115 hp and a 21-litre tank. Its 19-inch front wheel, modern shaft drive and optional radar make it technically unrelated to the 1200.

Years2008–2016
The first Stelvio uses the air/oil-cooled 1,151 cc eight-valve V-twin and shaft drive. NTX versions add spoked wheels, protection and a 32-litre tank; standard bikes are lighter with a smaller tank.
1,151 cc · 105 hp · 2 cyl.
The Moto Guzzi Stelvio is the adventure-tourer from the Mandello del Lario marque. The original 1200 NTX (2008-2016) used the air-cooled, transverse 90-degree V-twin with shaft drive (CARC), delivering around 105 hp through a four-valve head. In 2024 the Stelvio name returned on a completely new bike sharing the 853 cc liquid-cooled V-twin platform of the V100 Mandello, now with semi-active suspension and modern rider aids. Both generations carry the Guzzi signature: long wheelbase, upright bars, and the characteristic side-rock at idle that tilts right when you blip the throttle.
Buyers pick the Stelvio as an alternative to the obvious BMW R1200/1250 GS or Triumph Tiger 1200, less common in the carpark but with unmistakable Italian character and a comfortable touring ergonomics. The original 1200 feels heavy yet stable, ideal for tarmac touring two-up with luggage; off-road it remains a street-biased explorer. The 2024 Stelvio is lighter and sharper, fully kitted with TFT dash, cruise control and cornering ABS, aiming squarely at the upper end of the mid-large adventure segment.
Check the shaft coupling and CARC final drive for play and oil leaks; early 1200 NTX models suffered worn bearings.
Inspect the regulator/rectifier on the right side; heat causes failure, often resolved with a Mosfet upgrade.
Valve clearance every 10,000 km; the air-cooled 1200 8V is sensitive to drift in valve adjustment.
Ask about oil consumption: the 1200 4V/8V can use up to 1 litre per 1000 km without being faulty.
Watch the ABS reluctor ring and wheel-speed sensors on pre-2014 bikes; dirt build-up triggers fault codes.
