About the Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer
The Triumph Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer is the long-range variant of the Tiger 1200 generation introduced in 2022. It is powered by a liquid-cooled 1160 cc triple producing 150 hp, paired with a lightweight aluminium frame that dramatically reduced weight over its predecessor. The Rally Explorer is distinguished by a larger 30-litre fuel capacity (including auxiliary tank), adaptive semi-active Showa suspension, 21/18-inch spoked wheels and comprehensive off-road rider aids. Purpose-built for world travellers.
The Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer targets adventure riders who want serious off-road capability combined with touring comfort over the longest distances. The triple delivers rich torque and a distinctive sound, while the rider aid package gives both beginners and experienced riders confidence on every surface. It competes with the BMW R1300 GS Adventure and KTM 1290 Super Adventure R. Not recommended as a first bike.

What to check before buying
- Check the semi-active Showa fork and shock for leaks and correct electronic operation; failures in the adaptive system are expensive to repair.
- Inspect exhaust heat shields for loose mounts on examples with off-road use.
- Check the triple for oil leaks around valve covers and the engine block; the 1160 cc unit is robust but gasket leaks do occur.
- Ask about the condition of the spoked wheels and hubs; off-road use demands regular spoke tension checks.
- Check the TFT display and rider aids for fault codes; electronic systems require dealer diagnostics when malfunctioning.
