About the Yamaha YZF R9
The Yamaha YZF-R9 is a middleweight supersport motorcycle powered by an 890cc CP3 inline triple producing around 88 kW (120 hp). Introduced in 2025 as the successor to the YZF-R7, the R9 inherits the characterful three-cylinder personality of the MT-09 family, repackaged inside full bodywork and a dedicated sport riding position. Electronic rider aids including traction control, ride modes and cornering ABS are standard.
The YZF-R9 targets circuit-oriented riders who want an affordable, lightweight alternative to the R1 with more character and traction feel than a parallel twin. The high seat height of around 835 mm is worth noting for shorter riders. It competes with the Honda CBR900RR, Kawasaki ZX-6R and Triumph Daytona 660.

What to check before buying
- Check the firmware version is up to date; as a new model, early examples may have software issues addressed by a recall.
- Inspect tyre pressure and condition; sport tyres have a short lifespan under hard use.
- Examine the fairings and frame for crash damage; sports bikes are often ridden hard and may have been dropped.
- Ask about usage: daily commuting versus track days makes a significant difference to engine and brake wear patterns.
