HP4 (2012-2014)
GenerationThe HP4 is BMW's lightweight, track-focused 999 cc inline-four superbike based on the S 1000 RR, with electronically controlled suspension and very high output. It is chiefly for experienced sport and track riders; inspect crash history, DDC function and original parts carefully.
About the Bmw HP 4
The BMW HP4 is a limited homologation version of the S1000RR superbike, produced from 2012 to 2014. Its 999 cc water-cooled inline-four produces 193 hp, making it the most powerful production BMW at its launch. The defining feature is the Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) semi-active suspension system, which continuously adjusts damping based on riding conditions, a first for a production sportbike.
The HP4 is aimed exclusively at experienced riders with circuit ambitions. Its light weight of 199 kg (wet) and advanced electronics including traction control, launch control and pit lane limiter give it the edge over the standard S1000RR. It is not a daily commuter or beginner's bike. Direct rivals were the Ducati 1199 Panigale S and Aprilia RSV4 Factory. All examples included the option of M Carbon bodywork.

What to check before buying
- Check that the DDC semi-active suspension units function correctly; faulty units are expensive to replace and difficult to source used.
- Inspect fairing panels for repairs or mismatches from track incidents; M Carbon replacement parts carry very high costs.
- Verify maintenance history for compliance with BMW's strict service intervals; the high-performance engine requires frequent oil changes.
- Confirm the original race ECU is present and unmodified; alterations by previous owners may affect warranty or insurance conditions.
