The Yamaha YZF-R7 is a middleweight supersport reintroduced in 2021, based on the CP2 platform of the MT-07 with a 689cc parallel-twin engine. Yamaha first applied the R7 name to a 1999 homologation special, the OW-02, a road-legal version of the YZR500 racer with only 500 units built worldwide, but the current model from 2021 is an entirely different motorcycle. The modern R7 produces 73 hp in a lightweight 188 kg package, with a Deltabox frame, inverted KYB front fork, and adjustable monoshock. The ergonomics are sportier than the MT-07 but more accessible than the YZF-R6.
The R7 2021+ targets riders wanting a agile sports motorcycle for track days and spirited road riding, as well as commuters seeking a sharper-handling daily bike.
