About the Yamaha MT-07
The Yamaha MT-07 has been an accessible naked bike since 2014, built around the 689 cc CP2 parallel twin and its 270-degree crank. The engine delivers its performance smoothly and predictably through the low and middle rev range. A compact layout, 805 mm seat height and ready-to-ride weight around 180 kg make the MT-07 feel light without feeling like a small motorcycle. Yamaha revised the model in 2018 and 2021, then substantially redesigned it for 2025, while retaining the core engine layout, upright ergonomics and everyday usability.
The MT-07 suits newer and experienced riders who mainly ride on the road: commuting, city use, winding back roads and shorter tours. Its standard suspension and wind protection are simpler than those of heavier sport or touring motorcycles, while servicing, fuel use and controls remain straightforward. Factory 35 kW versions are available for A2 licence holders. From model year 2025, ride-by-wire, selectable riding modes and traction control became available, together with a Y-AMT version that shifts either through handlebar controls or fully automatically.

What to check before buying
- For motorcycles built between December 2022 and October 2024, ask a Yamaha dealer to check the VIN and confirm completion of the clutch recall; an affected clutch may continue to drag with the lever pulled in.
- On early 2018 examples, confirm that the drive-chain guard bolt and collar campaign was completed and that the guard is secure and undamaged.
- Inspect the steering-head bearings, fork tubes, fork seals, steering stops and engine covers for play, leaks or crash damage; on the test ride, watch for crooked bars or unstable straight-line tracking.
- Check the swingarm, rear-suspension linkage, fasteners, chain and sprockets for corrosion, play and neglected lubrication, especially on a motorcycle used outdoors throughout the year.
