Years
2021 - 2024
For 2021 the MT-07 gained a Euro 5-tuned 54 kW engine, Y-shaped LED headlight, wider aluminium handlebar and larger twin 298 mm front discs. Wet weight rose to 184 kg; from 2023, a five-inch TFT display and smartphone connectivity provide a clear identifying feature.
Years
2018 - 2020
The second generation is identified by its MT-09-style headlight, reshaped tank and intakes, more comfortable seat and revised suspension settings. The rear shock gained rebound adjustment, while engine output, brake diameter and the accessible core layout stayed close to the original model.
Years
2014 - 2017
The original generation uses the 55 kW CP2 twin, conventional 41 mm fork, twin 282 mm front discs and compact mass-forward bodywork. Yamaha listed 179 kg wet without ABS and 182 kg with ABS; the specification below uses the ABS version commonly encountered in the Netherlands.
The Yamaha MT-07 has been an accessible naked bike since 2014, built around the 689 cc CP2 parallel twin and its 270-degree crank. The engine delivers its performance smoothly and predictably through the low and middle rev range. A compact layout, 805 mm seat height and ready-to-ride weight around 180 kg make the MT-07 feel light without feeling like a small motorcycle. Yamaha revised the model in 2018 and 2021, then substantially redesigned it for 2025, while retaining the core engine layout, upright ergonomics and everyday usability.
The MT-07 suits newer and experienced riders who mainly ride on the road: commuting, city use, winding back roads and shorter tours. Its standard suspension and wind protection are simpler than those of heavier sport or touring motorcycles, while servicing, fuel use and controls remain straightforward. Factory 35 kW versions are available for A2 licence holders. From model year 2025, ride-by-wire, selectable riding modes and traction control became available, together with a Y-AMT version that shifts either through handlebar controls or fully automatically.
