About the Ktm 990 RC R
The KTM 990 RC R is a road-legal, type-approved sport-supersport machine KTM introduced at the end of 2024 as the faired sister of the 990 Duke. The 947 cc LC8c parallel twin produces around 128 hp and 103 Nm and in this RC R guise is mapped for sharper throttle response in the upper rev range. A steel trellis frame, fully adjustable WP Apex forks, Brembo Stylema brakes and a long swingarm deliver track performance that KTM positions deliberately closer to a trackday tool than to a touring sport. Cornering ABS, traction control, supermoto mode, a quickshifter and a 5-inch TFT with telemetry features are standard.
The target rider is the racer or trackday enthusiast looking for a KTM sport flagship without the price or complexity of a four-cylinder Italian superbike. The parallel-twin architecture keeps it considerably lighter than most 1000-class rivals (around 188 kg wet) with a more accessible power delivery. It competes with the Aprilia RS 660, Yamaha YZF-R7 and Triumph Daytona 660. For used buyers: the first examples have only been registered in the Netherlands from 2025; verify completed factory updates and the presence of the full rider-aid package.

What to check before buying
- Verify completed factory recalls and software updates on the LC8c parallel twin; early production of the 990 platform had bulletins around clutch and oil seals.
- Inspect the standard sport tyres for wear and uneven consumption; RC R riders often use it on track and tyres are a major cost and safety item.
- Check fairings and rear hugger for signs of crash damage; early track spills are not uncommon on a sporty newcomer.
- Test the quickshifter and auto-blipper from cold and warm; software updates can resolve shifting glitches.
- Ask about completed interim services: the 1,000 km and 15,000 km intervals are critical for engine longevity.
