Years
2023 - present
The later 890 Duke retains the 889 cc LC8c basis with electronics and ergonomics updates. It is a sporty road naked; service history and software updates matter more than small equipment differences.
Years
2020 - 2022
The first 890 Duke replaces the 790 as a stronger 889 cc LC8c naked. Sharp electronics and low mass make it very sporty; check water pump, clutch updates and quickshifter operation.
The KTM 890 Duke is the evolution of the 790 Duke and continues KTM's LC8c parallel-twin philosophy in a larger, sharper middleweight. The 889 cc twin with a 270-degree crankshaft makes around 115 hp and 92 Nm. KTM dubs it 'The Hooligan' and the calibration matches: more aggressive cams, heavier crank and stiffer chassis than the 790. Standard kit includes cornering ABS, lean-sensitive traction control and a TFT display. From 2023 there is also an 890 Duke R with Brembo Stylema brakes, full WP APEX suspension and sportier ergonomics.
The target rider is the experienced owner who wants middleweight handling but rejects the Yamaha MT-09 or Triumph Street Triple. At around 169 kg dry and an 820 mm seat, it is compact and easy to flick. The riding position is sport-upright and the top-end power delivery is properly punchy. For long-distance touring it is less suitable due to the sporty tune. Direct rivals are the Yamaha MT-09 SP, Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory, Ducati Monster and Triumph Street Triple 765 RS.
