Years
2016 - 2019
The final 690 Duke gained the revised LC4 with twin balancer shafts, 73 hp, a TFT display and smoother manners. The R makes 75 hp and has sportier chassis parts while sharing the same generation.
Years
2012 - 2015
For 2012 the Duke became a lower, more comfortable roadster with a true 690 cc LC4 and 14-litre tank. The R version adds higher-grade WP suspension, brakes and slightly more power.
Years
2008 - 2011
This angular 690 Duke uses the 654 cc LC4 single and retains a tall, supermoto-like stance. It is rawer and less road-focused than the fully redesigned generation from 2012.
The KTM 690 Duke is the single-cylinder naked that for years served as KTM's middleweight calling card. At its core sits the LC4 single, a 690 cc four-stroke with a balance shaft and from 2016 onwards dual balance shafts for reduced vibration. Power sits around 73 hp (2012-2015) up to 74 hp (2016+) at roughly 148 kg dry. Standard kit includes ride-by-wire, ABS and (from 2016) traction control. The steel trellis frame and WP suspension deliver a direct, raw riding feel that KTM markets as 'The Scalpel'.
The target rider loves low weight, agility and the character of a big single. The riding position is upright, the seat is tall at 835 mm and the bars are wide: ideal in town, on B-roads and on a mountain pass. For long motorway stages the 690 Duke is less suited due to vibration and a small fuel tank. Direct rivals are the Yamaha MT-07 (twin, more comfortable), Husqvarna Vitpilen 701 (same engine, different ergonomics) and Suzuki SV650.
