Years
2019 - 2023
The modern Z400 uses a liquid-cooled 399 cc parallel twin, trellis frame and ABS as a light, approachable naked for A2 riders.
Years
1980 - 1983
The Z400J switched to an air-cooled inline-four with a sportier revving character and forms the small-capacity base of Kawasaki's early J family.
Years
1974 - 1979
The early Z400 uses an air-cooled 398 cc parallel twin in a simple classic chassis and is mechanically distinct from the later four-cylinder.
The Kawasaki Z 400 spans two very distinct generations. The original Z400 from the 1970s and 1980s was an air-cooled parallel twin in the classic UJM mould, popular as an entry-level machine and today a sought-after classic. The current Z 400, introduced in 2019, is a fully modern naked bike with a 399 cc liquid-cooled parallel twin, LSS traction control, and Kawasaki's sharp Sugomi design language.
The 2019+ Z 400 was designed as an agile, lightweight naked for city riding and twisty back roads. At 45 hp and 182 kg it falls within the A2 licence category, making it popular with recent graduates and smaller riders. Handling is direct and playful, with a light clutch. It competes with the Yamaha MT-03 and Honda CB400F. Riders looking for more power naturally step up to the Z650 or Z900.
A used Kawasaki Z 400 costs €4,970 on average. Most cost €4,510 to €5,498. This is based on 27 motorcycles for sale now.
