Years
2024 - present
The current 300 EXC uses throttle-body injection and the latest enduro electronics. It is technically more refined, while hour log, piston interval and WP service remain decisive when buying.
Years
2018 - 2023
The TPI generation replaces the carburettor with transfer-port injection, making the 300 EXC more efficient and consistent at altitude. Check injection sensors, cold starting and all software updates.
Years
2012 - 2017
The late carburettor series gains modern chassis and WP suspension while retaining conventional fuelling. It is a popular hard-enduro base; check frame, clutch and hour log.
Years
1998 - 2011
The classic 300 EXC uses a carburettor and is the simple, raw large two-stroke enduro. Engine hours, piston, crank and suspension service matter more than low mileage.
The KTM 300 EXC has been the iconic two-stroke enduro of KTM since the 1990s, considered by many owners to be the best extreme enduro on the market. Beneath the seat sits a 297 cc two-stroke single with the trademark low-rev tractor pull two-strokes are known for; from 2018 fitted with transfer-port injection (TPI) and from 2023 with throttle-body injection (TBI), keeping the 300 EXC current on the European market into 2025. Its very low ready-to-ride weight (around 105-110 kg), steel trellis frame and long-travel WP XPlor suspension make it unbeatable in steep forest and rock terrain. Road registration is standard (lights, plate holder), unlike its motocross sibling, the 300 SX.
The target rider is the hard-enduro racer, extreme trail enthusiast and amateur competitor who values low weight and torque-rich pull above peak power. It is not built for long road stretches, the five-speed gearbox is short, the seat narrow and the riding position extreme for MX. Direct rivals are the Husqvarna TE 300 (technical twin), Sherco 300 SE Factory, Beta 300 RR and GasGas EC 300. For used buyers an engine-hour log is decisive: a 300 EXC needs regular piston replacement (around 150 hours) and is expensive to repair if neglected.

A used Ktm 300 EXC costs €14,299 on average. Most cost €8,500 to €15,099. This is based on 43 motorcycles for sale now.
