Years2025–present
From 2025 the family became the larger and more powerful Versys 1100, so listings showing 1,043 cc belong to the earlier Versys 1000 generations.

1,043 cc · 120 hp · 4 cyl.
Years2015–2018
The second generation gained sharper bodywork, stronger brakes, an adjustable screen and 88 kW output; cornering ABS and more refined rider aids arrived from 2017.

Years2012–2014
The first Versys 1000 combines the 1,043 cc inline four with upright ergonomics, conventional suspension and basic traction control, identified by its vertically stacked headlights.
1,043 cc · 118 hp · 4 cyl.
The Kawasaki Versys 1000 is a sport-tourer built around the 1,043 cc inline-four engine shared with the Z1000 family. In production since 2012 it produces about 88 kW (120 hp) and is paired with a substantial electronics package: ride modes, traction control, cornering ABS from 2018 and, on the SE, Showa Skyhook semi-active suspension from 2019. The upright riding position, long-travel suspension and 21-litre tank make it well suited to big mileages, while the four-cylinder engine feels smoother than most parallel-twin rivals at motorway speeds.
It targets solo and two-up touring riders who want Z1000 drivetrain refinement with more comfort and weather protection. With factory pannier sets (often part of S or Grand Tourer trims) it works as a full long-distance machine. Direct competitors are the Suzuki V-Strom 1050, Honda NT1100, Yamaha Tracer 9 GT and BMW S 1000 XR; unlike a true adventure bike (e.g. KTM 1290 Super Adventure) the Versys 1000 is firmly tarmac-focused.
Check the regulator/rectifier; 2012-2014 examples are known for failures and flat batteries.
Inspect the headers and silencer for corrosion on bikes ridden through Dutch winters.
Ask when the valve clearances were last checked; first service is at 24,000 km and the fairing strip-down makes it pricey.
On the SE, confirm the Showa Skyhook semi-active system initialises without TFT errors; repairs are expensive.
On high-mileage bikes look for oil weeping at the water pump cover and chain-tensioner gasket.
