About the Honda CB 650
The CB650 name covers two entirely different Honda lines: the air-cooled 626cc inline-four of 1979–1982 and the modern liquid-cooled 649cc fours. The generic source label ‘CB 650’ is also used for current CB650R adverts. The generation rows therefore separate the classic Z/Custom, CB650F and CB650R by year and explicit model code, preventing a modern Neo Sports naked from being confused with a classic carburetted motorcycle.
The CB650F and CB650R are smooth inline-four nakeds for riders wanting a higher-revving feel than a parallel twin. The F has conventional sport-naked styling, while the R from 2019 adds the round Neo Sports Café headlight and a more compact chassis. Full power is not A2 compliant; for an advert claiming 35kW, verify the restriction on the registration and in the paperwork.

What to check before buying
- On classic 1979–1982 models, inspect carburettors, tank and exhaust for storage damage, leaks and corrosion.
- On a CB650F/R, check service invoices, especially scheduled oil and valve-clearance work; listen for a quiet cam chain when cold.
- Inspect fork seals, steering-head bearings and brake callipers for leaks, play or sticking pistons.
- Check chain, sprockets and rear-wheel bearings; an overtight or neglected chain creates avoidable drivetrain wear.
- For a CB650F/R advertised as A2, ask for the official restriction kit and verify the registered output.
