Touring motorcycles

Touring motorcycles are configured for comfort, protection and luggage on longer journeys. The seat is spacious, the knee angle relatively relaxed and the fairing keeps much of the wind and rain away. A stable chassis, smooth power delivery and useful fuel range make motorway mileage calmer. Many versions include integrated panniers, cruise control, heated grips and an adjustable screen. The trade-off is higher weight, which is most noticeable while parking or turning around.

The Dutch used market includes traditional inline-four tourers, large twins and more luxurious shaft-driven models. Familiar examples are the BMW RT and K series, Honda Gold Wing, Yamaha FJR1300, Kawasaki 1400GTR and Triumph Trophy. Check that panniers lock and mount correctly, inspect brake and tyre wear, review chain or shaft-drive maintenance and look for fork or shock leaks. Test electrical accessories and any adjustable screen mechanism as well. A touring motorcycle suits couples, holiday riders and commuters who prefer shelter and calm progress over low weight and playful urban handling.
