Cruisers are recognised by a low seat, long wheelbase and relaxed power delivery. Footrests are often positioned farther forward, while the handlebar places the rider upright or slightly reclined. Large V-twins represent an important part of the market, although parallel twins, boxers and six-cylinders also appear. Strong low-rev torque allows unhurried shifting. Limited ground clearance and higher weight require care in tight bends and during slow manoeuvres. Wind protection ranges from almost none to a screen or full fairing.

The Dutch used market spans light entry-level cruisers and heavy touring cruisers with luggage. Familiar families include Harley-Davidson Sportster and Softail, Honda Rebel and Shadow, Yamaha XV and Bolt, Kawasaki Vulcan, Suzuki Intruder and Indian Scout. Inspect chrome, exhausts and aluminium for corrosion, check for leaks and pay attention to aftermarket pipes, handlebars and lighting. Ask whether modifications were installed properly and match the registration documents. A cruiser suits relaxed rides and riders who value a low seat, distinctive engine character and visual presence.
