The BMW K 1600 GTL is a luxury six-cylinder grand tourer introduced in 2011. The 1649 cc inline-six engine produces 160 hp and a massive 175 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful and refined motor tourers in the world. The GTL (Grand Tourismo Luxe) differentiates itself from the regular GT with a wider, taller windscreen, a more comfortable two-person seat configuration and additional luggage capacity. The fully integrated pannier system and electronically adjustable suspension make it suitable for extended international journeys.
The K 1600 GTL targets riders seeking absolute touring comfort combined with genuine performance. Its electronically adjustable dampers, adaptive headlights and optional audio system rank among the most technologically advanced equipment in the motorcycle segment. The 321 kg weight demands experience at low speeds and when parking. Direct rivals include the Honda Gold Wing and Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited.
Check the service history for regular belt replacement and tank service; the six-cylinder has higher maintenance costs than twin-cylinder tourers.
Inspect the electrical systems carefully: the complex CAN-bus network may require diagnostic work when rider aid systems malfunction.
Check coolant hoses and radiator for leaks on examples above 80,000 km.
Look for rear tyre wear; the high weight and torque accelerate rear tyre consumption.
Check the pannier lock mechanisms for correct operation; wear in the closing mechanisms has been reported on older examples.
