About the Benelli Leoncino 125
The Benelli Leoncino 125 is the entry-level model in the Leoncino family, launched in 2022. Power comes from a liquid-cooled 125 cc single with DOHC and four valves, producing around 11 hp - sitting neatly inside the European A1 and AM moped licence categories. The design borrows the neo-retro look of its 500 cc sibling: round headlight, sculpted tank, stubby tail and the lion-cub badge on the front mudguard. USD fork, ABS and LED lighting come as standard.
The Leoncino 125 targets 16 to 18-year-olds with an A1 licence and urban commuters who do not want to ride a typical scooter. At around 138 kg wet and with a 780 mm seat height it is agile and easy for smaller riders. Performance stays within the A1 ceiling around 100 km/h, so motorways are not its element. Closest rivals are the Yamaha XSR125, Honda CB125R, KTM 125 Duke and Husqvarna Svartpilen 125.

What to check before buying
- Inspect paint chipping on tank and frame - small rust spots are common in urban use
- Check the USD fork legs for oil leaks and stone chips
- Test the clutch and gearbox for notchy 1-to-2 shifts - the cable clutch stretches
- Ask for service history from an authorised Benelli dealer; parts lead times exceed Japanese brands
- Check the standard 100/80 front and 130/70 rear tyres for wear; entry-level bikes often run on cheap OEM rubber
