About the Yamaha Niken GT
The Yamaha Niken GT is the touring variant of Yamaha's three-wheeled Niken, powered by the 847cc liquid-cooled inline-three engine from the MT-09. Its defining feature is the LMW (Leaning Multi-Wheel) front end: two front wheels on a parallelogram linkage that delivers significantly more grip and stability than a conventional motorcycle. The GT version, introduced in 2019, adds heated grips, a taller windscreen, pannier mounts, and a gear position indicator.
The Niken GT targets experienced touring riders who want the extra stability of three wheels without sacrificing the sensation of riding. The handling is sharper than a traditional trike but more forgiving than a standard motorcycle for riders who feel less confident in corners or on slippery surfaces. It does not really compete with other motorcycles but serves as an alternative for riders considering a step toward a trike.

What to check before buying
- Check the LMW front-end pivot bearings for play; the system is complex and servicing should be done by a Yamaha dealer.
- Inspect both front tyres for even wear patterns; uneven wear can indicate misalignment in the parallelogram linkage.
- Ask about the condition of the pannier mounting points and brackets on high-mileage GT models.
- The high kerb weight (263 kg) makes the Niken GT difficult to manoeuvre at low speed or when parking on uneven ground.
