About the Triumph Tiger 1050
The Triumph Tiger 1050 arrived in 2007 as the successor to the Tiger 955i, pushing the Tiger platform decisively towards the road. Under the tall fairing sits a 1050 cc inline triple making around 116 hp, borrowed from the Speed Triple but retuned for more low-end torque. With 17-inch cast wheels, radial six-piston brakes and a full road-going chassis it is best understood as a sport adventure-tourer rather than a true off-roader: rough tarmac is fine, but serious dirt isn't its brief.
The Tiger 1050 targets riders who want long-distance comfort with sporty handling. A roomy seat, upright bars and good wind protection make it well-suited to two-up touring with luggage. It competes with the BMW R 1200 GS, Aprilia Caponord and Ducati Multistrada and stands out for its distinctive triple soundtrack and lower maintenance costs than the Italian rivals. Built from 2007 to around 2013 as the standalone 1050, later replaced by the 1050 Sport.

What to check before buying
- Check the regulator/rectifier; a known weak point that causes battery issues; confirm whether it has been replaced.
- Inspect the exhaust (especially the primary bends) for corrosion; early bikes had inconsistent stainless quality.
- Watch for oil seepage at the clutch cover and head gasket; verify the 40,000 km valve clearance service history.
- Replace chain and sprockets as a set; expect faster wear if the chain guard has been modified.
- Check the throttle position sensor; a dirty or worn TPS causes erratic idle on these bikes.
