About the Triumph Speed 400
The Triumph Speed 400 is an accessible roadster unveiled in 2023 and on sale in the Netherlands from 2024. At its heart is a newly developed 398 cc DOHC single producing around 40 hp and 37.5 Nm, comfortably within A2 limits. Engineered in partnership with Bajaj Auto and built in India, the bike keeps prices low without diluting the Triumph feel: a steel perimeter frame, upside-down forks and a radial four-piston front caliper feature throughout.
The Speed 400 targets new riders and urban commuters who want a real Triumph without the Bonneville price tag. At 161 kg with a 790 mm seat and a slim midsection it is easy to manage in heavy traffic. It competes with the Royal Enfield Hunter 350, KTM 390 Duke and Honda CB300R. For riders looking to step up within the Triumph range it is the logical entry point; the Scrambler 400 X shares the entire platform.

What to check before buying
- Confirm the 500 km / 1,000 km first service has been completed; this is critical on the new engine.
- Check the clutch on urban-used examples; some owners report cables wearing quickly.
- Inspect tank and frame finish; a few owners report stone-chip corrosion through the thin paint.
- Note the OEM Indian-made tyres (MRF/Apollo); many riders swap them straight away for Pirelli or Michelin.
- Verify that any recall work (chain drive, fuel pump) has been completed by an authorised dealer.
