About the Triumph Daytona 955 I
The Triumph Daytona 955i is a fully faired sports motorcycle produced from 1997 to 2006, powered by the 955 cc liquid-cooled triple shared with the Sprint ST and Speed Triple. Introduced in 1997 as the T595, it was Triumph's answer to the Japanese litre-class machines, producing 128 hp at 225 kg for a sharp on-road and on-track experience. The distinctive three-cylinder exhaust note and handling set it apart from its four-cylinder rivals.
The Daytona 955i targets experienced riders who want a British alternative to Japanese superbikes. The committed riding position suits weekend blasts and trackdays rather than daily commuting. It competed with the Honda CBR954RR and Yamaha YZF-R1. It was succeeded by the Daytona 675 in 2006.

What to check before buying
- Check the cooling system and thermostat for leaks; the 955i runs hot in urban traffic and thermostat failures are a known issue.
- Inspect the fuel injection O-ring seals at the injectors; they become brittle with age and cause hard starting.
- Check the exhaust header gaskets for leakage; the three-cylinder has three header joints and gasket wear occurs under repeated heat cycling.
- Check fork seals and lower legs for leaks; the Showa USD fork on later models requires periodic servicing.
- Inspect the steering head bearings for play; Daytona 955i bikes with track mileage wear the steering bearings faster than street use alone.
