Years
1998 - 2002
The late 900 SS i.e. uses fuel injection rather than the earlier carburettors, while retaining the 904cc air-cooled Desmodue. Match it only where the year fits or i.e. is explicit.
Years
1992 - 1995
The 900 SS Superlight is the lighter limited 1990s trim with specific wheels and equipment on the 904cc carburettor base. Match it only when Superlight/SL is explicit; a yellow or modified 900 SS is not automatically an original Superlight.
Years
1991 - 1997
The modern 900 SS with 904cc air-cooled Desmodue and carburettors is the familiar 1990s Supersport base. It shares a name with the classic bevel SS, but not its engine architecture or maintenance details.
Years
1975 - 1982
The classic 900 SS is the bevel-drive L-twin of the 1970s and early 1980s, technically distinct from the later 904cc Supersport. Verify engine and frame numbers carefully: many classic 900 SS bikes have been modified or replicated.
The Ducati 900 SuperSport (900 SS) is an air-cooled L-twin sport-tourer produced from 1975 to 2002. Its bevel-gear and later desmodromic valve actuation, combined with the distinctive half-fairing, define the model's identity. The 900 SS rose to global fame in 1978 when Mike Hailwood rode one to victory at the Isle of Man TT after an eleven-year absence. Over its long production run the model evolved from carburettors to fuel injection while retaining the character of a light, direct sporting machine built around Ducati's signature twin.
The 900 SS appeals to riders who prefer the torque and involvement of a twin over the peak power of a four-cylinder. Its riding position is sporting yet more manageable than a full superbike, making it suitable for experienced riders who also want to cover longer distances. Historical competitors include the Honda CB900F and Moto Guzzi Le Mans. Late fuel-injected models (1998–2002) offer the most day-to-day usability, while early carburetted examples carry more character and collector appeal.
