About the Suzuki GSX-S 1000
The Suzuki GSX-S1000 is a naked superbike powered by a 999cc inline-four derived from the GSX-R1000 K5. Since 2015 it has paired that rev-happy, muscular engine with a wide handlebar and an everyday-friendly riding position. The first generation is recognisable by its conventional headlamp and analogue tachometer; from 2021 the GSX-S1000 gained a sharp LED front end, ride-by-wire and a modern TFT display. It remains specifically a naked bike: the GSX-S1000GT and GX are separate model families.
The GSX-S1000 suits riders who want serious four-cylinder performance without supersport wrist pressure. It excels on twisty roads and sporty day rides, while its unfaired layout is more tiring on long motorway stretches. The engine is at its best once warm and worked through the midrange. On a used bike, inspect service history, chain set, brakes and accessories carefully; a quickshifter, screen or luggage do not turn it into a GT.

What to check before buying
- Check the complete service history, including valve-clearance work at the scheduled interval; the K5-derived engine is durable but not maintenance-free.
- Inspect chain, sprockets and rear-wheel cush rubbers for play; many examples have been ridden hard.
- On 2021-on bikes, test every switch, TFT function, quickshifter and traction-control setting on the road.
- Check fork legs, brake discs and pads for leaks or wear, especially on bikes used for track days or mountain riding.
