Eldorado 1400 (2015–2020)
GenerationThe revived Eldorado pairs retro-cruiser styling with the 1380cc California-family V-twin, ride-by-wire, ABS and traction control. It produces 96 hp (71 kW) and 120 Nm and is an entirely different generation from the 1970s V850.
Years
1972 - 1974
V850 Eldorado (1972–1974)
GenerationThe original Eldorado is the American-market V850 with an 844cc air-cooled 90° V-twin, carburettors, five speeds and shaft drive. Apart from its name and cruiser character, it is unrelated to the modern 1400.
About the Moto Guzzi Eldorado
The Moto Guzzi Eldorado exists in two generations: the classic 850 Eldorado from 1972-1974 and the modern Eldorado 1400 introduced in 2015. The 850 had an 844cc air-cooled V-twin with shaft drive and was Guzzi's answer to the American cruiser market, built for US police and civilian customers. The Eldorado 1400 revived the name with a 1380cc V-twin CARC engine and a modern electronics package, wearing retro-cruiser styling that references the original. Both generations carry the unmistakable Guzzi personality: torque-rich low-rpm delivery and understated Italian style.
The Eldorado appeals to riders wanting comfortable cruising with a strong machine identity. The 1400 variant is more accessible thanks to modern rider aids including ABS and traction control. Seat height is low and weight is manageable for the class. Competitors include the Harley-Davidson Softail and Indian Scout. Guzzi offers a European alternative with shaft drive and a transverse V-twin layout.

What to check before buying
- Check the shaft drive housing for oil leaks at the output flange; this is a known wear point on the CARC drivetrain.
- Check the carburettors (850) or ride electronics (1400) for correct operation; electrical issues with the rider aids have been reported on early 1400 examples.
- Examine the chrome components for corrosion and chips; the extensive chrome work requires active protection against road salt in winter.
- Check the condition of leather accessories (saddle, bags); original Guzzi leather ages but retains value in good condition.
- Check brake quality and fluid; the 850 has simple rear drums that perform poorly when neglected.
