About the Laverda 1000
The Laverda 1000 is an Italian classic superbike produced from 1973 into the early 1980s by the Italian manufacturer Laverda. The engine is a 981 cc triple-cylinder DOHC unit that in the standard 3C version produces around 80 hp, and in its most notorious form, the Jota, produced from 1976 to 1982, up to 90 hp. The Jota was widely regarded as the fastest and loudest production superbike of its era. The aggressive triple is characterised by an uneven 180-degree firing interval that produced a distinctive sound. The RGS and Mirage are later variants with a slightly softer tune and improved everyday usability.
The Laverda 1000 line is exclusively for collectors and riders experienced with classic Italian machines. Maintenance is specialist work and parts are hard to source. The riding position is sporting and demanding. On public roads the Jota delivers an intense and unpolished experience that modern superbikes cannot replicate in character. Historical competitors were the Honda CBX 1000 and Kawasaki Z1000. Good examples are rare and valuable collector's pieces.
