About the Kawasaki Z H2
The Kawasaki Z H2 is the hyper-naked spin-off of the H2 platform: the same mechanically driven Kawasaki supercharger as the Ninja H2, but without the fairing and with an upright cockpit. At its core is a 998 cc inline-four with a centrifugal supercharger that delivers boost without turbo lag. Output is 200 hp and 137 Nm at the crank, with peak torque available from 8,500 rpm. The trellis steel frame, fully adjustable Showa suspension, KECS electronic damping (on the SE) and Brembo Stylema brakes round out the running gear. A TFT dash, IMU-driven rider aids and cruise control have been standard since the 2020 launch.
The Z H2 targets experienced riders who want supercharger character without the extreme ergonomics of the Ninja H2. On dry tarmac it steers more easily than its 232 kg suggests, central mass concentration and a short wheelbase keep it chassis-light. Period rivals are the Ducati Streetfighter V4, BMW S 1000 R and Aprilia Tuono V4. For long-distance touring the narrow steering lock, high fuel consumption and tight fuel range (~17 l tank) limit your reach. Maintenance is pricier than a conventional litre-class naked: the supercharger demands strict service intervals.

What to check before buying
- Ask for full supercharger service history; deviating from Kawasaki's prescribed schedule can lead to expensive repairs.
- Check the exhaust header and catalyst for heat discolouration after track use; the supercharger runs the system hotter than a naturally aspirated litre.
- Test the ride-by-wire throttle for hesitation on quick on/off transitions; first-year cars saw firmware updates and recalibrations.
- Inspect the headlight housing for internal condensation; early 2020 units had occasional sealing issues.
- Watch rear tyre wear: the 190/55 rubber wears quicker than on a standard naked because of the high torque output.
