About the Kawasaki Vulcan 900
The Kawasaki Vulcan 900 is a mid-range V-twin cruiser introduced in 2006 and since then one of Kawasaki's best-selling cruisers. The air-cooled 903cc V-twin produces 50 hp with characteristic low-rev torque. The model is available in three versions: Classic (upright), Custom (chopper-style handlebars) and Classic LT (with windscreen and panniers). The design draws on American cruiser tradition with chrome detailing and a wide saddle.
The Vulcan 900 targets riders who want a reliable, accessible cruiser with low running costs. Its relatively low 700 mm seat height is a plus for shorter riders. The engine delivers comfortable ergonomics and a relaxed character, ideal for leisurely motorway rides. It competes directly with the Honda VT750 Shadow, the Yamaha XV950 and the Suzuki C800.

What to check before buying
- Check carburettor synchronisation and pilot jet condition; the V-twin runs rough with poor synchronisation or clogged pilot jets.
- Inspect the belt drive for wear and tension (Classic/Custom versions); the belt should be checked every 24,000 km.
- Test the stator charging output for correct voltage; a failing stator/generator is a known weakness at higher mileages.
- Check the battery on examples that have sat unused; the V-twin doesn't draw heavily at low revs but runs warm in city traffic.
- Inspect the brake discs for wear on Classic LT versions; the added weight of panniers increases braking load.
