About the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R
The Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R has been Kawasaki's superbike flagship since 2004 and the direct successor to the ZX-9R. At its core is a 998 cc inline-four with DOHC and 16 valves, paired with a six-speed cassette gearbox. The first generation (2004-2005) was infamous for its peaky tune and short wheelbase; from 2008 the bike became more manageable thanks to traction control, and the 2011 revision introduced S-KTRC with six ride modes. The current generation (from 2021) delivers 203 hp, IMU-driven rider aids, a quickshifter and aerodynamic winglets, drawn straight from the WSBK programme that won Kawasaki six world titles between 2013 and 2021.
The ZX-10R targets track-day riders and experienced road users; the ergonomics are uncompromisingly sporty with deep clip-ons and high footrests. Period rivals are the Yamaha YZF-R1, Honda CBR1000RR-R Fireblade, BMW S 1000 RR and Ducati Panigale V4. On public roads the engine only comes alive from around 6,000 rpm; below that it is sharp on throttle response. It is not built for long distances or commuting.
