About the Indian Scout
The Indian Scout is the mid-size cruiser from American brand Indian Motorcycle (owned by Polaris since 2011). The modern Scout debuted in 2015 with a liquid-cooled 1133 cc V-twin producing 100 hp and 97 Nm, paired with a six-speed gearbox. For 2025 the platform moved to a new 1250 cc Speedplus V-twin with digital instruments, ride modes and optional rider aids. The tubular steel frame, low seat height around 650 mm and relatively modest 245 kg curb weight give it sharper handling than most cruisers in its class.
The Scout targets riders who want an accessible American cruiser without the bulk of a Chief or Chieftain. Ergonomics are upright with forward foot controls, suiting city commutes and weekend rides on B-roads. Direct rivals include the Harley-Davidson Sportster S, Softail Standard and Triumph Bonneville Bobber. The bike ships without wind protection or luggage, so for longer trips check whether a candidate is already fitted with a screen, panniers or a pillion seat. The dealer network in the Netherlands is limited; factor in travel for service and warranty work.

What to check before buying
- Check the stator and regulator/rectifier; these are known weak spots on early model years (2015-2017).
- Inspect the cylinder base gasket area for oil weeping; base gaskets can start to sweat at higher mileages.
- Look for shifter wear and play on the gear selector shaft on hard-ridden examples.
- The rear shock is relatively basic; check for sag and oil leaks, especially on bikes ridden two-up.
- Indian dealer coverage in the Netherlands is sparse; request full service history and invoices before buying.
