The Honda GL1100 Gold Wing is a heavyweight touring motorcycle built around a water-cooled 1085 cc flat-four engine. Honda launched the GL1100 in 1980 as the successor to the GL1000, with more power (80 hp), a larger tank, and improved brakes. Production ran until 1983 in two variants: the naked Standard and the fully-equipped Interstate with panniers and top box. The GL1200 and later GL1500 followed.
The GL1100 targets long-distance tourers who prioritise comfort and riding time above all else. The relaxed riding position, low centre of gravity, and smooth four-cylinder engine make it ideal for multi-day touring. Two-up with luggage is where it excels. Period rivals were the BMW R100RT and Yamaha XS1100. Today it is a valued classic for fans of American touring culture.
