Years
2017 - 2019
2017–2019 CBR1000RR Fireblade SC77
GenerationThe SC77 Fireblade became 15kg lighter and gained ride-by-wire, traction control, wheelie control and selectable ride modes. The standard CBR1000RR is not the SP or SP2, which use higher-spec Öhlins and Brembo hardware. This is the most road-friendly pre-RR-R Fireblade but remains a true superbike. Check fault codes, rider-aid operation, any quickshifter and damage to the lightweight bodywork.
Years
2012 - 2016
2012–2016 CBR1000RR SC59 update
GenerationThe updated SC59 gained Big Piston forks, revised suspension and electronics in 2012, with C-ABS offered in some markets. Engine and core geometry remain from the 2008 generation, but the front end gives more feedback under hard braking. On a used bike, BPF fork service, correct ABS operation where fitted and rear-shock condition matter more than colour or accessory bodywork.
Years
2008 - 2011
2008–2011 CBR1000RR SC59
GenerationThe 2008 SC59 is an all-new Fireblade with a more compact engine, electronically controlled steering damper and centrally mounted exhaust. Its higher-spec engine and sharper geometry make it more track focused than the SC57, while remaining compact for a litre bike. Check the original exhaust and ECU, steering-damper operation and track-related wear in clutch, brakes and wheel bearings.
Years
2004 - 2007
2004–2007 CBR1000RR SC57
GenerationThe first CBR1000RR Fireblade replaced the CBR954RR with a 998cc inline four, Unit Pro-Link rear end and RC211V-inspired mass centralisation. The 2006 facelift mainly changed the styling and exhaust layout but remains the same SC57 family. It is a direct, analogue superbike without modern rider aids. Check for race or crash damage, swingarm and head bearings, brake discs and valve-train service.
About the Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade
The Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade is the direct successor to the CBR900RR, introduced in 2004 with an all-new aluminium twin-spar chassis and a 998cc inline-four initially producing 171 hp. In 2020 a thorough revision produced the RR-R variant with 217 hp, drawing on Honda's RC213V MotoGP technology and equipped with Öhlins Smart EC suspension and Brembo brakes. The SC57, SC59 and SC77 generations are the most common models on the second-hand market.
The CBR1000RR targets experienced supersport and trackday riders seeking maximum performance on the road with MotoGP-derived technology. It is an uncompromising machine with a demanding riding position and high power output. The RR-R (SC82) is especially popular as a close replica of the World Superbike racer. For everyday road rides the SC57 and SC59 are more manageable; the SC77 is the most refined version for street use.

What to check before buying
- Check for previous track crash damage to the frame, subframe and bodywork; this model sees intensive track use.
- Check the CBS-integrated brakes for correct ABS module operation (fault codes via diagnostics).
- Check the titanium exhaust on SP models for dents and damage; original systems are extremely expensive to replace.
- Check the electronic rider aids (quickshifter, traction control) for correct operation via the dashboard.
- Check the engine for oil consumption above 10,000 rpm, a known characteristic at higher mileages.
