2017–2020 Scrambler Café Racer
GenerationThe Scrambler Café Racer is the 803cc air/oil-cooled Desmodue Scrambler with clip-ons, small screen and single seat in a road-focused café-racer trim. It is one technical range; colour or individual accessories do not create a new generation.
About the Ducati Scrambler Cafe Racer
The Ducati Scrambler Café Racer is a retro-sport variant within the Scrambler family, produced from 2017 to 2020. It shares the 803 cc air/oil-cooled L-twin Desmodue engine with the standard Scrambler but adds clip-on handlebars, a small flyscreen, a single seat with an extended tail section, and striking red/black liveries inspired by 1960s racers. With 73 hp the output is modest, but the lightweight character makes it entertaining to ride.
The Scrambler Café Racer appeals to style-conscious riders and is also suitable for beginners or A2 licence holders when power-restricted to 35 kW. The clip-on bars create a slightly more forward-leaning position than the standard Scrambler, making longer journeys less comfortable. It competes with the Triumph Street Cup and Kawasaki Z650RS. Urban rides and back-road excursions are its natural territory.

What to check before buying
- Check the clip-on handlebars for damage or misalignment; a drop damages the bar assembly easily.
- Inspect the exhaust for heat discolouration and corrosion: the Scrambler exhaust is prone to rust on low-mileage bikes.
- Check valve clearance service history: the Desmodue requires adjustment every 15,000 km and this is often deferred.
- Examine the single seat for cracked upholstery and damage to the tail section.
- Check tyre wear patterns: the narrow retro tyres can wear unevenly with aggressive riding.
