Years
1973 - 1976
The 1973–1976 BMW R 90 S is the sporting 898 cc boxer with characteristic cockpit fairing, twin discs and shaft drive. Check engine and frame numbers, carburettors and valve clearance, final drive and brakes, plus fairing, wire wheels and restoration quality.
The BMW R 90 S is an air-cooled 898 cc flat-twin produced by BMW from 1973 to 1976 as the fastest production motorcycle of its era. The horizontally-opposed twin produced 67 hp through Dell'Orto slide carburettors and came standard with double front disc brakes, a first for BMW. The distinctive half-fairing, smoke-grey or orange-red paint, and café-racer ergonomics made the R 90 S an icon of the 1970s.
The R 90 S targets experienced riders with an appreciation for motorcycle history. It is unsuitable for beginners due to the sporty riding position and, for its time, formidable braking power. Motorways and winding mountain roads are where it excels. Contemporary rivals include the Ducati 750 Sport and the Kawasaki Z900.
A used Bmw R 90 S costs €9,500 on average. Most cost €7,747 to €10,200. This is based on 4 motorcycles for sale now.
