2016–2018 Hypermotard 939 SP
EditionThe 939 SP uses the same 937cc/81kW engine as the standard bike, but is distinguished by Öhlins suspension, Marchesini wheels and a taller, more track-focused package. Match this row only when SP is explicit.
Years
2016 - 2018
2016–2018 Hypermotard 939
GenerationThe regular Hypermotard 939 is the road-focused 937cc Testastretta 11° supermoto, producing 81kW. This base row requires no trim term, so an advert without an SP designation is not incorrectly identified as the higher-spec SP.
About the Ducati Hypermotard 939
The Ducati Hypermotard 939 is the 2016–2018 supermoto-inspired successor to the 821, powered by a liquid-cooled 937cc Testastretta 11° L-twin. Its tall stance, narrow shape and wide bar give it a direct, playful attitude on twisting roads. It is neither an air-cooled Monster nor a tourer: engine, cooling and electronics need the same care as other modern Ducati twins.
The standard 939 is the road-focused base. The 939 SP shares its engine but adds higher-spec chassis hardware, Öhlins suspension and lighter wheels for riders who value extra track and supermoto-focused equipment. On a used bike, check service history, cooling, rider aids, clutch and signs of hard use. An SP badge or individual Öhlins parts do not prove an original SP trim.

What to check before buying
- Request proof of desmodromic-valve service and oil changes; verify date, mileage and the Ducati specialist who carried them out.
- Inspect radiator, hoses, water pump and expansion tank for coolant traces, and test the fan in stationary traffic.
- Test the wet slipper clutch for smooth engagement and inspect the hydraulics for leaks; a 939 does not use a dry clutch.
- Check TFT, DTC/ABS and riding modes for warnings, and inspect wheel sensors and wiring after crash or track use.
- On an SP, inspect Öhlins suspension, Marchesini wheels and brakes for leaks, bent rims, damaged adjusters and non-original parts.
