DR-Z4SM (2025-heden)
GenerationThe DR-Z4SM combines the new fuel-injected single with 17-inch supermoto wheels and road-focused brakes. It is the 2025 successor with ‘4SM’ in the model name, not the old DR-Z400SM.
About the Suzuki DR-Z 4 SM
The Suzuki DR-Z4SM is Suzuki's modern road supermoto for the 2025 model year. Its 398 cc liquid-cooled single gains fuel injection, a six-speed gearbox, electronic rider aids and 17-inch road wheels. The ‘4SM’ spelling matters: this is the new generation, not automatically the older DR-Z400SM sold from 2005.
The DR-Z4SM is aimed at agile city use, short twisty roads and playful asphalt riding. Its tall narrow seat and limited wind protection make it less logical for long motorway trips, but it is attractive to A2 riders and easier in daily use than a pure race supermoto. Always verify that an advert actually says ‘4SM’ before applying the 2025 specification.

What to check before buying
- Check the carburettor for blockages and jetting modifications; many owners re-jet for more performance but this increases maintenance requirements.
- Inspect the exhaust for rust and cracks; the high output of the single-cylinder produces significant vibration that wears exhausts faster.
- Check valve clearances; the DR-Z400 requires periodic valve adjustment that is often neglected.
- Inspect the Kayaba USD fork for oil leaks and pitting on the stanchions; urban use in harsh environments accelerates fork wear.
