About the Ktm 450 SMR
The KTM 450 SMR is the race-grade supermoto from KTM's lineup, built on the 450 EXC motocross/enduro platform and converted for road use with 17-inch wheels and wider brake discs. The engine is a 449 cc SOHC single with water-cooling and EFI, producing around 63 hp. Weight stays under 140 kg, delivering the best power-to-weight ratio in the supermoto segment. The bike is produced in limited numbers each year, making it more exclusive than most rivals.
The 450 SMR is strictly for experienced riders comfortable with high-power lightweight machines. The aggressive steering geometry and high seat height (around 950 mm) make it unsuitable for beginners. In traffic it is supremely agile but on the motorway it vibrates and is less comfortable than a roadbike. Direct competitors include the Husqvarna 701 Supermoto, Sherco SCR 450, and KTM 690 SMC R. For track days and supermoto competition it has no equal.

What to check before buying
- Check piston and cylinder for wear; with race tuning, piston maintenance intervals are shorter than on touring models.
- Inspect the WP fork for correct oil level and seal wear; supermoto use on rough tarmac wears seals quickly.
- Check the rear swingarm bearings for play; a known concern under intensive sport use.
- Inspect brake discs for thickness; the narrow SMR-format discs wear fast under circuit braking.
