About Sport-touring motorcycles

Sport-touring motorcycles combine a precise chassis with useful comfort for longer distances. The rider leans slightly forward, but the posture is less compact than on a pure sport bike. A fairing and screen provide shelter, while the seat, fuel capacity and luggage mounts are designed around travel. The engine usually delivers power across a broad range, allowing quick overtakes without constant downshifts. Weight and engine heat can become noticeable in urban traffic.

The Dutch used market includes middleweights as well as powerful inline-fours and twins. Familiar models include Yamaha Tracer and FJR, Kawasaki Ninja 1000SX, Suzuki GSX-S1000GT, BMW RS, Honda VFR and Ducati Supersport. Inspect fairing panels and panniers for damage, test the adjustable screen and electronic aids, and review chain or shaft-drive maintenance. Tyre wear can indicate whether a bike mainly covered motorways or winding roads. A sport-tourer suits riders who enjoy dynamic handling but also travel with luggage, a passenger or many motorway miles.
