Cagiva is an Italian motorcycle brand founded in 1978 by the Castiglioni brothers in Varese. The company took over the former Aermacchi/Harley-Davidson factory and grew into a versatile manufacturer with models ranging from small 50cc scooters to powerful sport and adventure bikes. Cagiva gained international recognition with the Mito 125, an iconic 125cc sports bike, and the Elefant, a celebrated Dakar rally racer. The brand also held ownership stakes in Ducati and MV Agusta. Financial difficulties in the 1990s fragmented production.
In the Dutch used-motorcycle market, Cagigas are relatively rare but well-regarded by enthusiasts. The Mito 125 is popular as an entry-level machine for young riders and collectors. The Raptor and Navigator nakeds still make capable riders but parts support requires specialist knowledge. Cagiva occupies a characterful Italian niche in the A-licence entry segment and the classic mid-range market.
