The BMW C 400 GT is a maxi-scooter powered by a single-cylinder 350 cc engine, introduced in 2019 as the touring version of the C 400 X. With 34 hp and a wide CVT drivetrain it is positioned as an urban cruiser with touring ambitions. The GT differentiates itself from the X with a taller windscreen, heated grips as standard and a more forward-leaning riding position suited to longer journeys. Both riders benefit from a large underseat storage compartment and optional top case.
The C 400 GT attracts riders who want to combine daily commuting with comfortable weekend runs. An A2 licence category is sufficient, making it appealing for experienced car drivers making the switch to two wheels. Compared with the Yamaha XMAX 400 or Honda Forza 350 the BMW delivers a more premium ride feel but at a higher purchase price. Maintenance costs are higher than Japanese rivals, but BMW dealer coverage in the Netherlands is extensive.
Check the CVT belt for wear; BMW recommends replacement every 20,000 km but intensive city use accelerates deterioration.
Inspect the windscreen mounting for cracks and loose clips; the taller GT screen is more susceptible to vibration.
Check the brakes for adequate free play and fluid level; the C 400 GT uses an integrated CBS braking system.
Look for coolant hose leaks; the single-cylinder engine can heat up quickly in slow city traffic during summer.
Check the electrical system for fault codes via the TFT display, especially on bikes where rider aids are actively triggering.
